Panties

Oh the excitement she had today when we asked her if she wanted to wear panties. We had actually planned for her to wear them all day, but this morning was rushed and we were already leaving late for Gymboree, so we didn't bother. But we went to Gymboree and then Costco and then had lunch, and when we got home, her diaper was still dry. So, after her nap, we asked her if she wanted to wear panties for the rest of the day. She said, "Yes!" So, she went in the potty and then we put on her panties and we left again to go shopping. We went to 2 stores and she went potty at each one and remained dry. She went potty again when we got home. YEAH!!! She did so good for her first day. This is a HUGE step for her and for us. I was really worried about it and I know it is only day one, but it went so well, I think it will all be okay. But, tell me please.....How did she get so big, so fast????????? What's next???

Date Night

Last night we left Kaylee with a babysitter for the first time. Well, by babysitter, we mean someone who is not family. Amber is a teacher at Kaylee's school, and she loves ALL the teachers at her school, so we couldn't go wrong. We have been talking to Kaylee about Amber coming to watch her and she has been really excited. Yesterday, she asked all day when Amber was coming, where she was, etc. She only took a 1 hour nap because she was so excited. Amber got here a little before 6:00 and Kaylee was happy to see her but was a little shy at first. She warmed up quickly and when we left, she was not distressed at all....just wanted to wave goodbye to us. We had asked Amber to text us when she had fallen asleep, and when she did, she said Kaylee had done great and had gone to sleep perfectly. They both had a great time and so we did we. We saw a great movie called Extraoirdinary Measures about a family who has 2 children with a terrible disease called Pompe. I actually met the woman who is the godmother of the daughter in the movie. It is based on her cousin's life and how they worked so hard to find a medicine to help their children survive. It worked, and although the kids will always be in wheelchairs, they are no longer waiting to die. The medication, when given in infancy stops the disease and kids can go on to live almost normal lives. What a miracle! After the movie, we went to The Cheesecake Factory for dessert. Yummy! We will definitley be doing date nights more often. We are so blessed to have Kaylee at such a great school, where many of the teachers babysit and they are all wonderful.

Oh Sue Nana

I was driving home from work one day last week with Kaylee in the backseat and I hear singing. It took me a minute to figure out what she was saying....."Oh Sue Nana, Don't you cry me!" She kept singing it over and over again. I was laughing so hard, it made it difficult to drive. I couldn't wait to get home and have her sing it for Lori. Our funny, funny girl. (It is much funnier when you hear it in person, because you get the enunciation from her. Maybe I will get a video of her singing it to upload here.)

Diapers and duct tape

A couple of months back, I went in to check on Kaylee before going to bed and she was completely naked except for her socks.....no pajamas, no diaper. I sent Lori in to check on her and she came out laughing, but wondering what we were going to do. We tried to put a diaper on but woke her up, which made her mad! So, she ultimately took that one off too. We were awakened about 1:30 am to her crying that she was all wet. Well, go figure. What did she expect? But she is 2, so she doesn't have this cause and effect thing figured out just yet. So, we clean her up and change the sheets on her bed and put on another diaper. This one she left on. This same scenario played itself out for a few nights and we decided to try pull ups. We called them "Big Girl Night Night Panties." They last exactly 3 nights and on the 4th night we found the pull up on the middle of her floor. That night we did manage to get a diaper on her without waking her up. YEAH MOM's! So, we posted on Facebook, and got some responses. One response was from a friend who suggested what they did with her daughter...duct tape the tabs of the diaper so she can't get it off. Alas.....Success. We picked hot pink duct tape and it did the trick. Now, she did not particularly like this, but it worked. So, every night since, we have taped up her diaper and have had no more problems. Until last night......See, we forgot the tape, and sure enough, we were awakened to the same crying "Mommy, I am all wet," at 1:00 am this morning. We will not forget the duct tape again. And she is potty training too, so hopefully this will be a short lived problem. Well, we can't say that ife is boring.

We thought we had turned a corner...

This past week has just been wonderful with Kaylee. Last weekend, when we went out to eat, she sat in the high chair and ate her food--major feat. She had a good day at school EVERY DAY! This is a true accomplishment. It feels like she is finally getting it...Getting that we are serious and that the rules won't change and that the consequences are always going to happen. There were some moments, but they were short lived, and overall it was a great week. This weekend has been a bit harder. She has had a bit of a snotty nose, so she's not feeling her best...We will attribute the behavior to this as oppposed to thinking last week was just a fluke. But today, we went out to eat and then we were going to go get sand for her new sand box.....let me stress the 'we were going to go' part of this story....because it didn't happen. She was not at all the child we had at a restaurant last weekend. So, we told her no sand today. She was not happy, but she knows she has to behave to get what she wants. So, maybe tomorrow.
